Plenty to explore
Belgrade is the largest city in Serbia, and as such, the country’s largest city with a population of over 1.5 million.
The city is styled by various types of architecture. It is a relaxing and traditional city to spend time in, with activities such as relaxing in Kalemegdan Park, Ada Ciganlija island or Kosutnjak and enjoying the sunset should be high on your priority list.
Belgrade sits on rivers Danube and Sava, and spending an evening on the terrace of one of many restaurants situated along the rivers is a must upon visiting.
The city is known for great football tradition. The two major clubs Partizan and Red Star met English clubs on various occasions and the rivalry goes back to 1958 when Manchester United departed on that fateful trip to Munich. Also great is a basketball tradition, not to mention a great tennis champion Novak Djokovic was born there.
There are plenty of exhibitions on offer in the city, a trip to the local zoo is always a popular choice, as well as the National Museum and National Theatre. Belgrade city core is not too big, everything within close proximity of the centre can be accessed by foot.
However, to experience the true charm of Belgrade and Serbia you must visit the rural areas surrounding the major cities, these give you a true insight into life in Serbia.
